Here is the thing, there is going to be a day of economic reckoning when it comes to academic sports teams. Fact is for majority of schools athletics are a BIG MONEY LOSER, the hardest hit will be football while the NFL and top teir NCAA colleges can fend off lawsuits pertaining to concussions, it will be easier for most High Schools and colleges to just shut it down than to pay more money to make the sport safer or deal with getting sued. There are already schools that are doing that, Peidmont School district and John Paul Quinn College did just that. It just cost too much to pay for teams that did nothing but lose for 10 years straight, because they do not have the money to even be competitive. Maher is right, college sports are basically a for profit business built on the backs of slave labor.
