Miss MeloDramatic Written by: Daniel Robbins Arranged by Ralph Williams, Jermaine Layton and Daniel Robbins This song is an original that was written by one of our guitar players (Daniel Robbins). When Daniel first played this song for me, I knew it had all the bones of a great song. I asked him if he would mind if I sang it, rearranged it a bit, and put my spin on it. I told him about my ideas for the song and he told me to go for it. Next, I sat down with Jermaine Layton. I told him what I wanted to do with the song and we went to work. I wanted Daniel to play lead guitar on this one. Also, I wanted him doing rhythm parts and back up vocals. He graciously accommodated all of my requests. Jermaine took on the bass part and was superb. By the time me, Daniel and Jermaine each got done putting our stamp on this tune , I honestly felt we might have a hit on our hands. Tommy Granville, Jr. (RIAA Certified Platinum Record Producer) mastered this song as well as all of the other songs on our soon to be released CD FIRST PRESS. Soon after Tommy finished mastering this song he texted me and said, This song is going to be a cross-genre hit record. Congratulations Ralph! Needless to say, I was pumped. After all, Tommy is a real player in the industry. Im also aware that Tommy doesnt shout praises just to hear himself talk. This song is the only song we have done on this CD with just guitars, bass and drums. I used this instrument line up throughout the 60s and 70s and it served me well. The task was to make this instrumentation relevant on todays music scene. I wanted it to have smooth sense about it, but at the same time I wanted a sense of rawness. I wanted to do harmonies that the Eagles might use, and I wanted harmonies that Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young might have used in their early days. I thought about 2 specific artists when working through the arrangement. The first was the late Lou Reed, the second was one of todays top recording artists, Rob Thomas. I dont pretend to have the chops of either of those guys, but I imagined to myself what I thought each might do in different places in this song. From there I just let myself do what felt right to me. In the end, I think I got everything and more than I had hoped for. I cant thank Daniel Robbins enough for letting me debut his song. There is lots of drama in this tune and its lots of fun at the same time. Daniel is brilliant song writer, an incredible musician and wonderful friend. He is great husband and a great father. His wife Rhonda is a very talented photographer. What attracts me most to Daniel is his heart for the Lord. Daniel is also the worship leader at our church, The Church at The Cross in Grapevine, Texas. Thank you Daniel Robbins!!!!! You are incredible.
