Here is what I gather about Tux: Tux is approx 5-1/2. He was 5.5 lbs when found and is likely now 7. He slightly taller than Bobo--longer legs. No collar, no microchip. He was matted and resembled more of a Maltese. He was a stray, picked up around San Jose. I think he is likely a Maltese and poodle. He has the deep chest and curled long tail of a poodle. He has very soft hair and the calmness of a Maltese. He may have come from a backyard breeder who was deliberately breeding for Maltipoos--which is quite a popular designer breed. Our neighbor paid a fortune for one. Whoever owned may have wanted to breed him, because he was not neutered. I also dont think that whoever owned him could not afford proper regular care. His teeth were in horrible condition, I was told, and his breath smelled fetid. He had one retained baby tooth, which was removed by the vet who is the husband of the head of the rescue organization. His mouth seems quite sensitive, and he prefers to eat the soft food that Bobo eats. Then again, he recently had his dental cleaning. I am spraying a doggy oral solution twice today. It is an anti-bacterial. I do think he was loved. He follows us into the kitchen, expecting to be given some scraps. He lies down at our feet in the dining room, follows us elsewhere and loves to sit in our laps and get belly rubs. He sort of knows come, sit, stay . He does not come right away, but then again we dont know his name, and were using only the name the rescue group gave him. Im going to go through a list of common dog names and see if he responds to any of them. I think he may have lived with other dogs . When I feed him, he will take pieces away from the bowl and eat it about four feet away. But Bobo can go up to him and take away his food and he shows no guarding behavior. We are now feeding separately so Bobo does not bother him. Bobo has not been aggressive and Tux does show deference. Nonetheless, I am deliberately letting Bobo be top dog. We feed him treats first, put him on the bed first, etc. I want to avoid tussles over who is boss. Tux does not know how to climb stairs or go down. It must be that he lived in a single floor dwelling. He has never barked. He has whined only a little, for example, when he is downstairs and cannot go up, or when the car slows and stops, anticipating he will soon get out of the car. He has manners when walking. He does not pull on the leash. I hope Bobo learns from him! He has a soft mouth. He opens his mouth in play but does not bite down. When playful, he races around the room and slaps the floor. He is friendly with strangers from the start. He shows no fear of people. He is fine in a crate. He slept in one quietly. He pees and poops after eating and has a favorite spot already, which is now Bobos favorite as well! He is a great dog. I believe he was someones pet and that he simply wandered away and got lost. I can only imagine someone is heartbroken to have lost him.
