Here is your midday report from Burke Weather: Currently we are seeing mostly sunny skies throughout Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, and McDowell Counties. Visible satellite is showing some cumulus cloud developing on the ridge tops of the Appalachian mountains, but the moment they look dont seem to be growing in elevation. Temps throughout the area are really starting to warm. Morganton 85 F, Valdese 87 F, Salem 89 F, Lake James 87 F, Hickory 88 F, Longview 90 F, Newton 88 F, Granite Falls 87 F, Lenoir 90 F, Hudson 88 F, Marion 88 F, Greenlee 87 F, and Old Fort 86 F. This afternoon we run the risk of seeing some strong to severe thunderstorms throughout the four counties. These will be scattered. I would give a 30% - 40% chance of seeing a few storms form in the forecast area. These storms will contain, dangerous cloud to ground lightning, large hail, heavy rains, and a damaging wind gust.
