Here it goes: Taylor Swift is golden. Everything she says, - TopicsExpress

Here it goes: Taylor Swift is golden. Everything she says, does, sings, touches is immediate gold. Up until about 4 hours ago, I was perfectly fine with that. She has millions of followers, her new album made record sales. I have adored her for years. I think shes creative, talented, honest, and funny. I very much so appreciated her very public I am an idiot statement in regards to her stance on feminism when she realized her idea of what that meant was all wrong. Ive since read and watched her on multiple instances very eloquent defend women or make excellent points on the double standards we face. Very recently I read an excerpt from something she said regarding the fact that she is constantly called crazy and other things of the like because all of her music is written about her relationships or her heartbreak. She made an excellent point that artists like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and Adam Lavigne write about the exact same things constantly and no one calls them any of those names. The video Taylor released today for her single Blank Space features her at a lavish estate. The clothing, house, cars, make up, settings she is featured in throughout are beautiful, regal, and expensive. Theres a gorgeous man who portrays her boyfriend and for the first half of the video theyre all happy, then she discovers hes cheating on her. Theyre shown arguing which ends with her shoving him, scratching his face and throwing a vase at him. She then cuts up his clothes and throws his phone in a pond and smashes his car with a golf club. By the end of the video she is straddling his unconscious body in the driveway and kissing his face and biting his lip. I expected her to end up in hand cuffs. Or for something to happen that made it clear that none of those things were ever acceptable. It didnt. This beautiful, funny, talented, smart woman who is currently on top of the world released a music video that entirely sensationalized domestics violence and abusing her partner. I dont know if shes missed the half dozen high profile DV cases in the media lately. Or if she didnt get the No More memo. I dont know, I dont understand how she, and her writers, directors, PR people, etc okayed a video where she beats the hell out of someone for cheating on her. Ive read somethings online about the video being a mockery of how the media portrays her. Maybe I could see that with the scenes of her sobbing or cutting up a painting of him or even yelling at him. But theres never an instance where its okay to even mock domestic violence. Also, as someone who has millions of preteen and teenage followers, what was she thinking. If any of them find out their little boyfriends or girlfriends cheat on them, are they allowed to mimic what their idol just portrayed? Not without some serious legal trouble. Even the throwing of the phone into the lake would end them in serious trouble. I just cant. I have no idea. Theres a line in the song that says well take this way too far. I dont know if youve ever been caught in a moment that goes too far. Its not healthy. Whether youre the aggressor or the victim, immediately following, seek help. Especially if the too far included physical violence, although I dont know if thats the worst form of abuse. Emotional abuse can be just as devastating and unfortunately doesnt end just because youve gotten away from the abuser. All of it is awful and not for a minute should it be sensationalized in a music video as thought there are no consequences. As a smart strong woman, why wasnt the video about finding the courage to leave someone who made her feel worthless? Not a better message to send out into the world? I desperately hope someone with a voice far more powerful than mine speaks up. I would like to understand the thought process behind the idea that this was okay. I hope the video receives no airtime. I hope theres as public of an apology made for it as there was about her stance on feminism. Until then, homegirl has definitely lost herself a serious fan. I dont care how much I have enjoyed her music or how often she has made me laugh. I hold no double standards for men and women. Especially not when theyre perpetrating an issue so dangerous and so relevant. Bye.
