Heres Why Im Standing Behind PETA According to state records, - TopicsExpress

Heres Why Im Standing Behind PETA According to state records, PETA handles almost NO stray animals (strays comprise less than 2% of PETAs intake), so any accusations that theyre routinely rounding them up are false. Additionally, state records indicate that, for all reporting years, nearly every animal PETA euthanizes is received from his/her guardian and that these guardians are signing legal releases stating their animals may be immediately euthanized. You can learn more here: whypetaeuthanizes/understanding-petas-shelter.html Since PETAs shelter opened fifteen years ago and their Community Animal Project debuted a decade ago, PETA has served over a QUARTER OF A MILLION Hampton Roads animals in their communities, in PETAs veterinary clinics, and in PETAs specialized shelter. To put this in perspective, the Hampton Roads area has about 1.6 million residents, more and more of whom fall below the poverty level every year. When I interviewed VAs State Veterinarian about PETAs shelter, in 2012, I asked the man point blank if he had ANY reason to believe that PETA was somehow misrepresenting its services to the public, and he stated that, at the time, his office had NEVER received a complaint about PETAs shelter. When I touched base with him a year later, he stated that his office had received three complaints, but that none of them had been substantiated by the state. He didnt give any indication that any of the complaints had been directly related to PETAs shelter. PETAs shelter record has been absolutely stellar, and if PETAs detractors were interested in being honest with their followers, they would disclose how few strays PETA actually serves. Not so incidentally, I was able to confirm with the following animal shelters that PETA transfers most healthy stray animals to the Norfolk Animal Care Center for guardian redemption. If PETA receives a sick or injured stray, they treat the animal on their dime and forward his/her info to the Norfolk Animal Care Center. If the animal becomes adoptable, PETA either finds/him/her a permanent adoptive home, or they transfer the animal to the Virginia Beach SPCA for adoption. PETA works with other shelters as well, when necessary, so that adoptable Hampton Roads animals have the best chance at guardian redemption or finding their well-deserved forever home. It is also important to note that the state of Virginia has a mandatory five day hold period for stray animals, however, theres nothing in Virginia Comprehensive Animal Care Law that prevents ANY shelter from euthanizing a suffering animal they have taken into their custody. See what Virginias State Veterinarian and shelter directors in PETAs area have to say about PETAs shelter, here: whypetaeuthanizes/understanding-petas-shelter.html I encourage everyone to reserve judgement about this alleged stolen dog incident until which time PETA has made a formal statement about it. I expect well be hearing their side of this pretty soon.
