Heres a Globe story about the dangerous cuts to services and nursing positions at UMass Memorial Medical Center, which includes cutting care to frail elders, sick children and the loss of expert IV therapy care for a complex patient population that needs that level of care. This is all part of UMass Memorials belief in the Toyota Lean manufacturing model of care delivery, the same model that resulted in the largest recall in automotive history; except in the hospital setting there are not recalls, there are readmissions and, in the worse cases, funerals.
