Heres a little confession. I take advantage of commissions to experiment with style and technique. There, it feels good to get that off my chest! So, this client wanted tiny faces peeking out of the vines... and Im trying something completely new-to-me: honest-to-goodness realism. The face and eyes are all taken from photographs of medieval statuary (and a few modern gargoyle sculptures). Im hoping the end effect is subtle, and doesnt clash with the semi-decorative style of the rest of the piece. If it doesnt work, though, Ill just sand it down and change the style a bit! greenwoodcreationsstudios
