Heres a new question from our inbox: ‘We have been extending - TopicsExpress

Heres a new question from our inbox: ‘We have been extending learning of a project in our preschool room (3-4 years). The children have shown an ongoing interest in superhero play. As part of our extension, the children have made their own capes. To do this, our wonderful teacher has assisted them with using a sewing machine to create their planned capes. The results are so beautiful and inspiring and every child is incredibly proud. We are getting queried by other educators who like our Facebook page how we are allowed to do this as they feel it is an OHS issue. We have dealt with the queries but I am curious how others deal with similar matters? We raise a few eyebrows with some of the minimal risks we allow children to take i.e.: on a recent building project the children were allowed large pieces of timber and bricks in the mud pit—the most amazing structures were built with the children creating outfits for their heavy duty jobs. We are confident in our choices and allowance of access to risk but it would be nice to know how others handle these kind of queries and concerns?’
