Heres a real gem for fans of early Steve Perry-fronted Journey - TopicsExpress

Heres a real gem for fans of early Steve Perry-fronted Journey because its a prime live example of the classic sound that Journey Revisited pays homage to and rocks on stage every time. -- Pam @JRNYrevisited (my little write up is below) *** Lineup: Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, Ross Valory, Steve Perry, Steve Smith. Journey - Comiskey Park, August 1979 - Chicago, IL (Full Studio Jam concert - 1 hr, 28 min) 01 - Intro-Majestic 02 - La Do Da 03 - Next 04 - Feeling That Way 05 - Anytime 06 - Lights 07 - Lady Luck 08 - Too Late 09 - Kahoutek 10 - Winds Of March 11 - Lovin Touchin Squeezin 12 - Just The Same Way 13 - Lovin You Is Easy 14 - Guitar Solo 15 - Wheel In the Sky 16 - She Makes Me 17 - Patiently 18 - Opened The Door This concert was held as part of the Evolution tour -- Journey during its more bluesy phase. As was custom at the time for the band, there are no pre-recorded backing vocals -- you hear each of the vox in the trademark harmonizing in this epic concert. You just want MORE - why cant rock bands just get up there and sing and play it live like this? Oh wait, our guys in JR do it that way for the fans at each gig! Thanks, Jeff, Val, David, Kevin, and Michael. :) Neal Schons melodic, prog axe work is amazing that meshes with SPs vocals. And oh, yes, we get some sizzling Hammond B3 work from Gregg Rolie. Ross Valory and Steve Smith bring it on the rhythm section; theres a lot of yummy improv here. And The Voice. What can you say? You get to hear Steve Perrys bell-clear, tenor at its peak -- as well as his insanely perfect ability to make interesting vocal choices in a live setting that really hit the sweet spot (check out Opened the Door as well as a blues-drenched opening for Wheel in the Sky). You can get chills listening to Steve Perrys trademark ability to stretch a word into a dozen or so melodic syllables (melisma) of perfection. Its here in spades. And the band matches every bit of the groove of improvisation. SP hadnt yet developed the trademark rasp that Journey fans who came on board during the bands arena rock-era period recall. Did I mention theres Perry on cowbell during this concert? Yeah! This aired as a radiocast on Studio Jam. The audio clarity is excellent, surely a soundboard recording, edited for broadcast.
