Heres a tale of the one that got away. I was working in a local Garage (LJ Richards) when a Westfield 7 cam in the early one with the long wings like the one below. These were a subject of a court case between Caterham who bought the rights to the Lotus 7 and the court rulled the car was a copy and Westfield had to cease and hand over the tooling. I saw this car out on the pumps coughing and popping and spoke to the owner and offered to sort it out. I went round tuned the 1600 X-Flow and balanced the carbs and he mentioned he might be selling it. I put in a offer and we mmeasured the garage up and I arranged to collect it friday eve after work. He was in the Royal Navy and the car was built over a 5yr period with the best of everything, and why it was one worth buying. Went and sorted the cash out and went round to get the car, matey boy says sorry not selling it now tried every way to get him to change his mind!! Cant write here what I wanted to do the the guy .......... came home disappointed as hell. About 6 weeks later was in Redruth when I saw this Guy in Greens Newsagents, and I said hows the westfield going ? the old boy says I sold it last week Im off to Australia. I had to walk out the shop sharpish otherwise chummy boy would be in no fit state to travel anywhere ! Why he never contacted me I dont know ? we only likes 4 miles apart, and Ill never know the answer to that question!
