Wanted to fill you all in on a miracle we saw at Beer-Sheba yesterday. Late in the afternoon a small spark from some welding that was happening at a construction site on the project ignited a small fire that was nearly contained. Human efforts were quickly thwarted as nature took its course. Combined with high winds and temperatures near 40 degrees C, there was nothing we could physically do to match what was taking place. Our first instinct was to activate a network of prayer and we literally had people all over the world praying within minutes of the fire starting. The fire was proceeding in a direct line from our rain-fed storage basin heading towards the dorm and livestock area. People prayed specifically for the wind to change directions. God answered!! Suddenly, the wind changed direction by 90 degrees and the high flames (several meters high) turned away from the developed areas and moved in a direction away from buildings and crops. By then, the fire department of Mbour arrived with a small truck and were able to put out the the remainders of the fire. We were overwhelmed by the help of the local community as we had hundreds of young and old men and women busily and calmly putting up fire blocks near the buildings. It was an amazing site of community. Our estimate is that approximately 25-30 hectares of grassland burned. More importantly and for what we are most grateful for, no one was hurt, no property, livestock or crops were affected.
