Heres one that is hurting my head. There are two strands of opinion to which I am currently drawn. On some levels they both make sense but they also seem contradictory. 1. There is a lot of anger expressed toward corporate greed, government complicity & corruption. All of this is, in my opinion, justified as it is anger addressed toward wholesale theft by a minority of the human heritage & birthright of the majority. 2. The other strand starts with the notion that positive thought attracts positives into your life. Love attracts love. Healing starts with forgiveness. The problem for me is that I find it incredibly difficult to feel benevolence or forgiveness towards those who trade in violence to disinvest humanity. I use the word violence advisedly because I believe that a person party to a decision to deprive another of their means of survival by taxing a bedroom is as complicit as a corporation fighting for the right to impose denatured food on a population; as the person pulling the trigger in an assassination. I know there are those who will say, Never underestimate the power of love to overcome. I encounter amazing stories of what some individuals achieve by facing hatred with love. Ultimately the carnage goes on. In the 60s I was certainly influenced by the hippy ideal of love only to see it cynically commercialised & debased. Maybe turning on & dropping out was a naive approach to all the machinery of nation states! I cannot help but empathise with those who say that revolutionary change is inevitable. My dilemma is which way to jump. Are there really enough of us worldwide who can emphasise the positives, exercise sufficient collective love & exert sufficient peaceful resistance to achieve a peaceful transformation of the international state violence to which we are all subjected? Do we, otherwise, don a cloak of inevitability & prepare ourselves for the bleak prospect of a long, drawn out battle of attrition with all the carnage that will bring to both sides? Over to you. Discuss.
