Heres one to ponder on all....the bain of New Brighton, the Hawke street carpark...the good news is that parts are due to be fixed up very soon...the reality....there is more to fix. It is a tricky one that I have been trying to knock on the head, the carpark is free for us all to use, so who should fix it? Option 1: The retailers pay extra is lease, which means products will be more expensive and is hard for retailers to pay in current trading climate. Option 2:The owners pay for fixing it, kinda the way it should be but they will want to recoup costs via higher leases, making business harder here.Or they may want to charge for parking, ugghh imagine having paid meters in the republic, no thanks.. Option 3: We all chip in a touch, keeping it as a free asset for locals and visitors to the republic, we get to use it for the whole year without having to pay every time, 200 people putting in 20 bucks would easily solve the problem. Option 4: Asking very nicely if some of the roading companies making big dollars in the rebuild do a pro bono one off fix, will not address the problem long term but would have great instant effect. Personally I am keen on option 3...but would love to hear what others think...after all we all get to use it whenever we want free of charge and free parking is a big asset to the republic....both short and long term...what say you members of the republic, shall we fix our own assets?
