Heres our full calendar for our Spring film series! Mark your calendars! 1/18 - Bottle Rocket (1996) Dir. Wes Anderson Starring Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson In Texas, Dignan (Owen Wilson) rescues Anthony (Luke Wilson) from a voluntary psychiatric unit, where he has been staying for self-described exhaustion. Dignan has an elaborate escape planned and has developed a 75-year plan that he shows to Anthony. The plan is to pull off several heists, and then meet up with a Mr. Henry, a landscaper and part-time criminal known to Dignan. 2/1 - Groundhog Day (1993) Dir. Harold Ramis Starring Bill Murry, Andie McDowell Murray plays Phil Connors, an arrogant and egocentric Pittsburgh TV weatherman who, during a hated assignment covering the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, finds himself in a time loop, repeating the same day again and again. After indulging in hedonism and numerous suicide attempts, he begins to re-examine his life and priorities. 2/15 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) Dir. Michel Gondry Starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslett Emotionally withdrawn Joel Barish and unrestrained free spirit Clementine Kruczynski strike up a relationship on a Long Island Rail Road train from Montauk, New York on Valentine’s Day. They are almost immediately drawn to each other despite their radically different personalities. 3/1 - Defending Your Life (1991) Dir. Albert Brooks Starring Albert Brooks, Meryl Streep A romantic comedy-fantasy film about a man who dies and arrives in the afterlife only to find that he must stand trial and justify his lifelong fears in order to advance to the next phase of life; or be sent back to earth to do it again. 3/15 - Midnight in Paris (2011) Dir. Woody Allen Starring Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard Taking place in Paris, the film follows Gil Pender, a screenwriter, who is forced to confront the shortcomings of his relationship with his materialistic fiancée and their divergent goals, which become increasingly exaggerated as he travels back in time each night at midnight. 4/5 - Stranger than Fiction (2006) Dir. Marc Forster Starring Will Ferrell, Dustin Hoffman The main plot follows Harold Crick (portrayed by Ferrell), a nondescript IRS official whose regimented life is interrupted by a disembodied voice narrating events as they happen. Believing he is not mentally ill, Crick consults a literature professor (Hoffman) who suspects that Crick might be a character in a novel and who suggests that Crick analyze the narration to determine whether his story might be comedic or tragic. 4/19 - The Truman Show (1997) Dir. Peter Weir Starring Jim Carrey, Laura Linney The film chronicles the life of a man who is initially unaware that he is living in a constructed reality television show, broadcast around the clock to billions of people across the globe. Truman becomes suspicious of his perceived reality and embarks on a quest to discover the truth about his life. 5/3 - Something Wild (1986) Dir. Jonathan Demme Starring Jeff Daniels, Melanie Griffith Charles Driggs (Jeff Daniels), is a straight-laced banker from New York City, whose wife left him nine months earlier. One day, he meets an adorable young woman named Lulu (Melanie Griffith), and the two go on a bizarre adventure in a car that she has stolen. 5/17 - Up in the Air (2010) Dir. Jason Reitman Starring George Clooney, Anna Kendrick Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) works for the Career Transitions Corporation (CTC). He makes his living traveling to workplaces in the United States and informing workers of their dismissals in place of their employers, who fear doing it themselves. Part-time, Ryan also delivers motivational speeches, using the metaphor Whats In Your Backpack? to extol the virtues of a life free of burdens like relationships with people as well as things, arguing that the best way to live is to travel light, with little to hold one down. The film follows his isolated life, philosophies, and the people he meets along the way. 6/7 - Good Night and Good Luck (2005) Dir. George Clooney Starring David Strathairn, Robert Downey Jr. Written by Clooney and Grant Heslov, the film portrays the conflict between veteran radio and television journalist Edward R. Murrow and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy ofWisconsin, especially relating to the anti-Communist Senators actions with the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. 6/21 - Frances Ha (2013) Dir. Noah Bombauch Starring Greta Gerwig, Mickey Sumner Frances Halladay (Greta Gerwig) is a 27-year-old dancer who lives with her best friend Sophie (Mickey Sumner) in Brooklyn, but Sophie decides to move out and live with another friend, leaving Frances to figure out how to live her life.
