Heres some footage of the feeder march from Crumlin and the South Inner City as it made its way to the Right to Water monster protest on Tuesday. The singing of Were on the One Road reflects the strong republican sentiment that is emerging within the anti-Water Tax campaign in many parts of the country. As we approach the centenary anniversary of the 1916 Rising the contrast between the Ireland envisioned within the 1916 Proclamation and the reality of the Ireland of 2014 could not be greater. It is therefore no surprise that working class communities are looking to Irelands rich history of revolutionary republicanism for inspiration as they fight for a better society today. More and more people are coming to understand that the Twenty-Six Counties is not a true Republic and that it never was. The real Irish Republic was crushed during the counter-revolution of 1921 and 1922. And those right-wing forces that crushed it remain in control of the Twenty-Six Counties to this day. It can only be hoped that the spirit of resistance that is now growing across the state will continue to grow until it matches the revolutionary movement that developed in the aftermath of the 1916 Rising. Then we will truly be on the road to god knows where!
