Heres some handy information to help prevent damage to your vehicle. As many of you know our gas is blended with ethanol to help reduce emissions and dependence on foreign oil. But some of you may not know that ethanol (made from corn) is hygroscopic. Meaning the ethanol fuel will absorb water. How this affects the performance of our vehicle is when we buy fuel from a location that doesnt have a high turnover rate It can have a higher water content due to it setting in the tank longer and the ethanol absorbing water. What this can cause is a lean condition due to misfire from not having a correct air fuel ratio. A high enough water content will cause steam inside the combustion chamber and lead to rust and possible blown head gaskets due to increased cylinder head temps. Its always a good rule of thumb to buy your gas from a station that is usually a fairly busy location to help prevent over saturation. Also premium gas can be even worse due to the prices most consumers use regular and the premium sets in the tanks longer and doesnt have the turn over volume as regular. There are fuel additives out there that can help prevent the water in fuel and it doesnt hurt to maybe run one of those through your car on regular intervals. It will certainly help to keep the rest of the fuel system clean and over the life of you car can save you money!
