Heres the thing: I understand not shopping on Black Friday (or Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and other holidays). I agree that it is unfair to force employees to work on days that are traditionally dedicated to family. Our consumerism is excessive. BUT there are people who shop on Black Friday or other commercialized days who would not otherwise be able to afford certain goods. I cant fault a parent who waits outside of Walmart to afford the presents their kids want, or who get new clothes because of Independence Day sales. Lets be sure to criticize the systems that lead to obsessions with material goods, the businesses that abuse workers and their communities, but not the people trying to live within it.
