Herman Junior Cortez Funeral at Meserole Funeral Home Inc 143 Lord Ave Inwood, NY 11096 (516) 239-1398 Funeral Home Monday, 13, 2014 9-11AM Herman “Junior” Cortez passed away on September 27, 2014 in Far Rockaway, New York. Herman was born in New York, NY on September 1, 1951 Herman was the first-born son of Sixta Rivera and Herman Cortez. Herman is survived by his wife Lorna of 33 years, they were married on August 22, 1981 and by his children, Claudette Henry, and sons Steven and Paul Cortez. And by his siblings, brothers - Victor, Robert, Jesse, Edward, and sisters - Lillian and Evelyn. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Herman was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. Herman was a member of the Army Reserve from 1975 until 1981. He was a noble soldier that rose to the rank of Specialist E-4. Herman was an animal lover, who cared for cats and dogs during his lifetime. Herman was an expert mechanic and handy man. According to his sons “There was nothing Dad couldnt fix or do”. He was a skillful Wing Chun martial arts practitioner that learned from the best. Herman studied under Moy Yat, the legendary Sifu who was taught by Grandmaster Yip Man. Notably, Yip Man also taught the late great Bruce Lee. Herman enjoyed listening to rock n roll and jazz music. His books of choice were mostly on topics he admired the most, Martial Arts, Automobiles and Physical Fitness. Herman was an extremely talented and intelligent man but all in all he was a humble man. Not one to show off but one who was always willing to help if he could. Herman will be missed by all who loved and knew him. May God bless and keep him and may he rest his soul. Sadly missed along life’s way, Quietly remembered every day. No longer in our life to share, But in our hearts, you’re always there.
