Hermanos: My name is Luis J. Nicho and I am currently one of the Directors of NUESTRO IDEAL Inc; the organization is established solely to bring educational and research nonprofit work . The mission of the organization is to promote and develop innovative ideas for charitable, cultural , educational and economic advancement of the people of Latin America through the Western Hemisphere. Our Ideal includes academic research, open discussion , publications, articles, lectures and seminars , conferences and meetings. Our Ideal has the private financial support from the general public, individuals and foundations and does not accept governmental funds. On April 18, 2014 from 2-7pm, we will have our very first conference; the event is comprised of two Latin American Studies Professors/Authors giving an academia presentation. First professor is Alexandra Pita Gonzalez, she is a professor at Colima University in Colima, Mejico. She holds a Ph.D. in History. She works at the Center for Historical Studies; her field of study is Intellectual History of Latin America and International Relations. She will speaking to us about La Union Latino Americana (ULA). The organization was established in 1935 and It was a collaborative effort to bring forth union among the LatinAmerican nations against imperialism. The second professor is from Argentina, his name is Horacio Tarcus and he holds a Ph.D. in history from the National University of La Plata, he is also a professor at the University of Buenos Aires and a CONICET researcher. In 1998 he was one of the founders of CeDInCI (Research and Documentation Centre of Culture of the Left in Argentina), an institution now part of the National University of San Martín and which he is principal. In 2003 he obtained a grant from the Guggenheim Foundation to carry out the Biographical Dictionary of Argentina left, first of its kind in Latin America, which Emecé published in 2007. He will be speaking to is about Jose Ingenieros, who was considered el Maestro por los estudiantes de Latinoamérica and who was the architect of the ULA. The event is schedule for a 4 hour time frame; it would be compose of each professor’s presentation, follow by a brief discussion and Q&A segment with panelist. AELLA from the CUNY Graduate Center and CLACS from NYU will be also participating at the event. The cost of the event is $10 for students with ID and $20 for non students.
