Hey All, Weve been promising some big news for the last few days, and tonight were happy to make the big reveal! This summer, Granite State is proud to welcome professional runners Nate Jenkins (@NateJruns), Ruben Sanca (@Sanca617), and Ben True (@bentrue) as our guest speakers for the week! Cue the applause. Returning for his fourth year to speak to campers, 2:14 marathoner Nate Jenkins has a wealth of experience that he is only too willing to share with campers. His stories range from his time running for Team USA in the marathon at Worlds in 2009 to trick-or-treating with Paula Radcliffe’s daughter to even dating advice! His present focus is to set a new PR at the Richmond Half Marathon and to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials. Cape Verdean long distance runner Ruben Sanca is slated to speak on Tuesday. As a UMass Lowell River Hawk, Sanca was a 4-time All American and 3-time New England Champion. In 2012, he represented Cape Verde at the London Olympics in the 5K. Fresh off a win in the 5000m at the 2014 Lusophony Games (14:28), Sanca is excited to come speak with campers. When not training, he is actively engaged in the “Life on Track” program to help provide mentorship to young men of color from all around the Mattapan, Dorchester, and Roxbury areas in Boston. Clearing some time from his hectic schedule, Ben True plans on speaking on Monday, before returning to Europe again on Tuesday to resume competing in a series of races. As a high school athlete (Greely High, NH), True split his time between Nordic Skiing and running, where he earned All-American honors twice at the Foot Locker XC Championship. In college (Dartmouth) he was also awarded All-American honors, twice at the NCAA Mens XC Championships, three times at the NCAA Skiing Championships, and once at the Mens Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In 2011, True joined the Saucony Elite Racing team. Some highlights of his professional career include: 4 national championships on the roads in various distances, the 2011 US Road Circuit championship, being the top American at the 2011 and 2013 IAFF World XC Championships (35th and 6th place finishes respectively), and 4th place finishes in both the 5K and 10K at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Not to mention the fact the hes fresh off a 13:02 5K PR this spring, and hungry for more! This summer, True also added acting to his resume when he became the subject of a segment of the Flotrack web series: Driven. The trailer can be viewed here (ow.ly/zOJ48). Also making an appearance in the video are some of the dirt roads that you’ll run on during Tuesday’s run! We want to thank these athletes yet again for taking time out of their busy schedules to come speak with us during this session of camp. Be sure to follow them on twitter and show your enthusiasm for camp! 10 Days!
