Hey Beauties! Its been a cold month so far, how have you been taking care of your hair? Winter is a difficult time for a lot of ladies, but here are some tips that will help you through the season. - In winter the air is dry and strips your hair of its moisture. Therefore, it is advisable to keep your hair in a protective (low manipulation) hairstyle. This could be braids or a weave, so that your hair is not exposed. If exposed too often your hair may dry out and break if you are also not moisturizing it effectively - Whatever style you decide to wear, moisturize daily and use a sealant (natural oils- olive oil, castor oil, coconut oil, argan oil) to lock in the moisture. For the moisturizer use a product that has water as one of the first components. Water = moisture - Ensure that the cornrows under your weave are not too tight, as this may break your hair and hairline. Alternatively, you can opt to leave your hairline unplaited (ie . the baby hairs) but make sure it is well moisturized from root to tip!!! - Do not tie your braids too tight as this tugs on your hairline and causes hairloss – traction alopecia - Wash your hair every two weeks and do an oil treatment to ensure that your scalp is clean and well nourished which in turn leads to healthy hair growth - When sleeping, use a SILK scarf or bonnet. Silk is slippery and will glide over your pillow therefore minimizing hair breakage by minimizing friction - Avoid colouring your hair in winter. Dyes and tints thin out and dry your hair thus coloured hair needs regular oil treatments and proper moisturizing. Additionally, the dry air in winter strips your hair of moisture. Therefore, a combination of the two could be double trouble. - Drink lots of water, it’s great for your skin too!!
