Hey Class of 2017, Are you interested in participating in Mercer On Mission? For the first time since Mercer on Missions inception, Mercer University will be taking this program to South Korea! Mercer On Mission is a unique blend of study abroad and service-learning that provides life-changing experiences for students through academic instruction, cultural immersion, meaningful service, and spiritual reflection. What would you do in South Korea for Mercer On Mission? You will be providing service learning to 1st through 6th grade students at Drim School, located 60 miles south of Seoul, South Korea. Drim School is the first special education foundation for North Korean refugees and their children. It was established in 2003 and offers elementary to high school curriculum. More than 200 students have been enrolled since 2003 with around 65 high school graduates and 46 graduates who then went on to college or university. In order to integrate more fully into the South Korean culture, they need education in English, in technology, and in modern culture. This project seeks to address these three problems that the students face. The ability to speak English fluently is the most powerful factor for success in Korea. Contemporary South Korean culture is also highly technological, and education in basic robotics and computer skills will be greatly beneficial for them and may open opportunities for them to have STEM-oriented careers. You will be living with them for three weeks to teach English and to play and interact together with LEGO MINDSTORMS. Please like the Mercer On Mission Korea Facebook Page and share with your friends. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or call (478) 301-2992 or visit mom.mercer.edu/south-korea.cfm. You do not want to miss out on this amazing opportunity :)
