Hey Ellen DeGeneres, I hope this is okay... I just wanted to share a bit about my story and what I am about... My Story can be found on The Black Swan Project which is a page I set up to hopefully inspire people to be themselves, who they truly are, and with attitudes of love and compassion. I used to be obese when I was an adolescent... mercilessly bullied at school and consequently very troubled. I tried to commit suicide twice (thankfully I was unsuccessful) and then decided to turn my life around. At the age of 22 I finally decided I was going to pursue my dream of being a dancer, and have since become a professional dancer. I entered into New Zealands Got Talent in 2012 performing a very daring dance en pointe. My entire life story came out on National Television, and I was instantly messaged by people who told me that they feel the same and that seeing what I had accomplished inspired them to hang on and be better for themselves. I created a dance video of my story and called it the Black Swan. It is kind of like the Ugly Duckling except that I was gay, so I never conformed to what I think the ideal son would have been, therefore, the Black and not the white Swan. Performing arts has a way of touching peoples lives, and so I believe that one can use it as a form of activism to create awareness and inspire change. Performance art activism. I have danced my Black Swan on 5 continents this year, and sometimes in the streets too. We all have stories, so lets tell them... lets enrich the fabric of life with our individual threads, and sew them together to create a beautiful quilt, darned from experience and purposed for change.
