Hey Everyone, Due to recent events in town we have seen a large increase in the weekly email list and on our Facebook page, so I think now would be a good time to reintroduce ourselves. The Midlothian Community Policing Committee was formed almost five years ago. Our mission was to promote and foster a better relationship between residents and the Police Department, so a small group of volunteer residents got together and embarked on this journey. We held community meetings to learn from residents what they felt was most important to them. We then formed a plan to attain our goal. We started hosting an the annual National Night Out. We gathered volunteers to tackle projects in town to clean up blighted properties. We started hosting an annual golf outing to raise money to support the local D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. programs. We started hosting the quarterly DEA Drug Take Back Days. We hold monthly meetings in the Police Department for residents to have a place to ask questions and voice their concerns. We started a email list and a Facebook page to keep people informed. And we started a Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP). Just to be clear, our walkers are not the Guardian Angels. They are not armed or trained in martial arts. They are not out there to confront criminals. They are just a group of concerned and interested residents that want to get out, walk the town, get a chance to see parts of town that they would not normally see and meet and get to know their fellow residents. With that said, we will have two walks this week. Tuesday, well meet at the Midlothian Train Station at 7:30pm. Thursday, well meet at Raday Lodge, 145th and Kedzie, at 7:30pm.
