Hey, I would like to ask you for some advice: Due to the work that I do as a motivational speaker, I sometimes receive e-mails from people asking for advice on various issues. Recently, I received a question that really puzzled me and I’m not sure how best to respond. It’s a question I received from a young man about racial preferences. He explained to me that he is only physically attracted to girls who are of a certain race and that certain race is not the same race that he is from. He told me that he feels that it’s wrong to be like that. He said he feels it’s sinful and racist and disrespectful to the people of his race. And he asked me for advice regarding what he should do to “correct” this “problem”. That question really puzzled me and so, I thought I should reach out to people who I consider to be wise and ask them for their thoughts about this issue. I know that this is a very sensitive issue. So, if you have any insights about this issue, please let me know.... From my personal experience, I realize that there is beauty in all races. And it’s very immature to stereotype a whole race as being the most attractive. Also, I’ve realized that no matter how physically attractive a girl may be at a certain point in her life, her physical attractiveness is so very fragile and superficial. And so, although physical attraction is important, what is much more important is her heart and her spiritual maturity and her personal values and her communication skills and her faith and her love and her patience and her integrity. So, we have to be careful to not allow our physical attraction blind us from seeing what’s most important about girls.
