Hey Intervarsity, I don’t know if any of you have heard, but - TopicsExpress

Hey Intervarsity, I don’t know if any of you have heard, but has been some very exciting news coming from Turkey. Over the past couple of days the Pope of Rome Francis I, head of the Roman Catholic Church, and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I, the first of equals in the leadership of the Orthodox Church, have been meeting. Both men have been talking about the supreme goal of full communion, essentially reunion, between the two Churches. They have celebrated services together and have formed a genuine friendship. While this all may seem trivial one thing that is important to remember is that the Churches have been separate seen roughly 1053 so such union between the leaders is truly momentous. Here are some of the links to the speeches that they made today while celebrating together: Bartholomew I: en.radiovaticana.va/news/2014/11/29/allocution_of_patriarch_bartholomew_on_saturday_evening/1112997 Francis I: en.radiovaticana.va/news/2014/11/29/pope_francis_ecumenical_prayer_with_patriarch_bartholomew/1112996 P.S. The request that Francis makes to Bartholomew to bless the Church of Rome is especially momentous as it suggests that Francis comes to Bartholomew as an equal which is a major change in Roman Catholic stance on the Primacy of Peter.
