Hey Joe, my name is Django. Im a first time listener, first time - TopicsExpress

Hey Joe, my name is Django. Im a first time listener, first time caller. As another member of the Bellingham Mystery Tortilla Appreciation Society, Id like to echo what Weston said and throw my two cents on the two cents fire. Listening to the guests on your show today, it was obvious that they have based their opinions of the Bellingham Mystery Tortilla Appreciation Society and the Tortilla Bomber on a near-complete lack of knowledge about either entity. First, it is important to understand that the Bellingham Mystery Tortilla Appreciation Society is not creating or hanging the tortillas. As our carefully-worded name indicates, we are here to appreciate. We have expanded that definition to include documenting, discussing, databasing and detective-ing. However we are not the one(s) putting tortillas up around Bellingham. The tortillas in plastic bags with nonsense messages written on them have been getting taped up on surfaces all over downtown for the last year or more. The general consensus of those of us who have been following the mysterious phenomenon is that the tortillas are a celebration of the absurd more than anything else. There hasnt been a noticeably negative tortilla that I can think of (though some silly commentary on local issues has popped up occasionally), and there certainly hasnt been any indication of a racial bias one way or the other by the Tortilla Bomber. Of course, since the Tortilla Bomber has not revealed themselves, theres no way to know for sure if this is a long-term racist propaganda campaign or not, but as someone who has been watching and studying it since what is believed to be the beginning, I find that extremely unlikely. It should also be noted that since the Tortilla Bombers identity is unknown, there is every possibility that its not a white person creating these apparently polarizing bits of art(?). Racism is real, but Im not sure that this (Movement? Project? Vandalism?) is a very good example of it. We would welcome open discussion about this issue on our Facebook page, but as far as we can tell, from our insanely exhaustive record-keeping (props to the admins of the group), Edgar and Rosalinda have not brought their concerns to us. If they had, we could have filled them in on our myriad theories of why tortillas instead of white bread and what exactly has written on the tortillas over the course of the last fourteen months. Thanks for your time. Django
