Hey all! We brewed our first DIPA today. Here is the recipe: 16 lb 2 row 1.5 lb carapils 1oz chinook @ 65 1 oz simcoe @ 40 1 oz mosaic and 1 oz citra @ 25 Irish moss @ 15 1 oz mosaic and 1 oz citra @ 10 1 oz citra @ 1 2 oz citra dry hop in secondary O.g. supposed to be 1.078 F.g. supposed to be 1.005 Pitched wyeast american ale 1056 Mashed in at 162 with 9 gallons. Mashed for 90 minutes. Preboil gravity of 1.050 @ 7.75 gallons Post boil gravity of 1.066 @ 5.5 gallons (in fermenter) Efficiency is about 57% if Im not mistaken? Im happy with the result for now. Pushed the limit of the basket and paint strainer bag. Gonna have to get a good bag that fits the kettle to do anything that big again. I know the efficiency is low but is it terrible for biab with a large grain bill? We are gonna get supplies to do a 5% ipa for the next few brews and try to up the efficiency tweaking our crush and operation.
