Hey everyone! :) I am not a breeder, in fact a bit if a Highlands - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone! :) I am not a breeder, in fact a bit if a Highlands novice! This is Wee Daisy Coo at 4 weeks old, I am raising her on the bottle on raw and powdered calf milk. I was looking for a companion for my 9 month old hand raised house cow and came across this baby needing a new home after losing her mama. I was hesitant, she was wild as the wind and didnt like human touch, but after seeing her living conditions I took her straight home in the back of my car! So now I have a few questions! :) Will I be OK to have her in the paddock with my freisien house cow as they grow? A lady said she may bully her and cut her up with her horns? When will her horns come in? Someone told me they were born with them but she just has tiny hard buds. Will she be safe with the kids with her horns? Do any of you milk your highlands? I know they have a high butterfat content but cant seem to find anyone who milks them? When can I halter train her? Is there anything I should know/do at this stage to make her as loving, trusting and friendly as my house cow? So far (2 weeks in) I just treat her the same and she seems to be coming along well! :) I am loving learning about this magic old breed, and seeing all the stunning beasts you guys are breeding! I may have been bitten by the highlands bug for life! Thanks for your time and valuable information! :)
