Hey everyone, I would like to take a second to speak out if you - TopicsExpress

Hey everyone, I would like to take a second to speak out if you all do not mind. Please take the time to read this if you are interested. If not, thats fine too. But here it goes: Obviously there is a lot going on with Bou’s Brew Pub. Some things are being said that arent 100% accurate. Some things may be elaborated or fabricated in some areas as well. But obviously there is also a lot of truth to this. The following things I am about to say are just to clarify things, and then explain where everything is going from here. First thing is first- the city council meeting was held because of the revocation of licenses due to noise complaints. That was defended for several reasons and we could have had all the excuses in the world, but that doesnt matter if ultimately it is disturbing someone or a couple of someone’s enough that they complain all the time. I could go on for hours trying to defend the noise issue, but most of the people’s opinions I have seen on Facebook are genuinely my opinion as well. After the noise issues went too far, that is where the police chief came in and had to do his job. He gathered info. We had quite a bit of calls to the police held against us. They were on record as fight calls, but because we called- it’s on us regardless of where they started or what have you. In our defense, we had called because we felt that calling them was the right thing to do. As citizens we have taken care of fights in front of North Eastland (that were not noticed), in the shared parking lot behind us, next to Mai Tai, down near Wilders and many other places. All of those calls were because we cared and thought it was the best thing to do. That being an issue before the meeting was never brought up to me in the way it was at the city council meeting. The gun incident, no one could have predicted and that was scary for everyone involved, but honestly look what came out of it. That person is in jail for doing more than just that. Entering our bar, then pulling that was a matter of circumstance. He had been to other bars that night, but happened to do this in ours. There was a point in the meeting where it just basically felt we were not welcomed in Presque isle by the ones who were against us. On top of all this there were some violations that we had to handle with code enforcement. Some we didnt realize were an issue until they were an issue. Others we took care of and they took some time, but were all taken care of. For them to say that we didnt do anything in the past until we were about to be closed down was wrong, because this is the first time we have been threatened with it. Some of the things we had against us were past issues that were handled and we thought to be long gone. Some were newer. Not everything was done in as timely a manner as it should have been- I’ll admit, but that was not the intention on my part personally although I will hold myself responsible partially. However, I too entrusted others to do their job while I did mine. I should have paid more attention. It takes a lot to run and own a business and we were all learning and will continue to learn-Trial and error. But like the people in the city council meeting said, in this town it only takes “one mistake”. Luckily, they are giving us a sort of chance with this plan of action they want. So what do we do from here? Well we are not entirely welcomed on Main Street unless we shut all noise down, but we can tell it will always be a hassle. And we do need a bigger space so… We are moving the heart and passion and meaning of Bou’s to another location. However, it’s not going to be called Bou’s anymore. I know there is an attachment to the name. But the name itself is not what made the place. It’s all of you that did-your ideas, your concerns, your requests, your love, your pride-all of that is what built us. We gave you what you asked for. It was a place to have a great time, feel comfortable, and be a part of this family. That love will never leave. It will always be here and move to where ever the people go. That care will never leave and of course, this really only matters to the people who want us here. Outside of that, I really don’t mind if you are someone who doesnt want to be here. If it’s not for you-it’s not for you, but know we really do try to do everything to accommodate everyone we can and nurture the needs of others. Fact is- I can’t force you to like us. You must experience it for yourself ;) The reason for the revamping and name change of the establishment is because ownership is changing as well as business structure and inner workings. We are changing the inside workings to better suit the police chief, fire chief, city hall, and public. The move to a bigger place will be great in a lot of ways as you can imagine (yes we realize flaws come with everything-try to see the light) but right now we need to do what’s in our budget and with the help and support of others. The VFW will be letting us rent the space and do mostly with it what we want with respects to them as well. They would like to get back to their old roots and not personally run a bar, but they believe in us to become even more successful. That means more to us than people realize. They do not judge us for our ages, what others say, or what have you. They see us as real as we are. And for anyone to say that going to the VFW will destroy their reputation is just childish. We do not mean harm nor will we be harming anyone. All of us are so ready to work together and take advantage of a multi-use facility. What is wrong with that? Maybe if more places worked together, businesses would last. We all need each other…Let us set an example for you. It’s okay to accept something a little different. What else is going to make this town grow a little? Our new bar owners will be Derrell Richardson and I, Kylie Oliveira. We will have the managerial help of my father Mark Oliveira. And yes Al will still be there doing some inner workings, but not what it used to be. There are multiple reasons for this, but leave the questions for him or myself privately. With this new opening, we have to obtain new licenses in the mean-time and get all the legalities out of the way. We unfortunately do not have a grand opening date for you. But we can say we are working as fast as possible to make this happen. Bou’s Brew Pub is officially closed down. But please don’t forget how much our hearts are still in this. I cannot say it enough. We are still the same people doing this for you. The new name we have picked was actually inspired by the people and city of Presque Isle. We just need to make sure we can use it. A lot of the way Presque Isle citizens responded to us made us feel that some of the city still actually shared the same belief in what we were doing. The love and support you all showed meant more than we could even say. I personally am more grateful than I have ever been to have this life and be involved with some of the best people I have ever met. My last year has been a struggle both business and personally. And to realize that people still have as much love in their hearts as I do makes my life… seriously. So to all of you lastly, know how much I love you-we love you. Know that we are sorry for any inconvenience that this caused or causes but we promise to change your mind. Remember and don’t forget how much a part of this you all are. The establishment concepts moving can really be a good thing. But we all need to allow it to be. Try to stay positive and supportive with us. We need you. Always! Please take care all. Love & Peace, Kylie Oliveira
