Hey folks, Bob again. In Fort Worth, Texas, a woman named Marlise - TopicsExpress

Hey folks, Bob again. In Fort Worth, Texas, a woman named Marlise Munoz was found unconscious several weeks ago and has since been diagnosed as brain dead. At the time, she was 14 weeks pregnant. (23 weeks pregnant now) Her husband, his family and even her family has all agreed she is brain dead and asked that she be removed from life support. The hospital said they were not allowed to because she was pregnant and they had a responsibility to keep her on life support long enough that her unborn baby could survive outside the womb. Well, a judge has ruled in favor of the family and ordered the hospital to remove her from life support, which they did over the weekend. She died and so did her baby, who was at 23 weeks along. The hospital said the baby was not viable (although many babies ARE viable in some cases at 20-21 weeks). Now, this baby did have health issues too. The legs were apparently deformed, there was fluid on the skull and would, no doubt, been in a battle possibly to live anyway. But Im not ready to judge the value of a human being by whether they are defective or not. Im curious what you all think of this case. Should the families wishes have been ignored so that the baby could be allowed to develop a little bit more? (I say yes) Or should the families wishes have been followed, at the expense of the baby? Look, I dont want to be insensitive to this family that lost a daughter and to this husband who lost his young wife, but if Im to be totally honest, Im kind of disappointed no one seemed to value this little addition to the family. I wish her parents had seen that fetus as their grandchild. I wish her husband Erick saw that fetus as his child. I just think its horrible that this little baby had to die also. What are your thoughts on this case? cbsnews/news/texas-hospital-to-remove-brain-dead-pregnant-woman-marlise-munoz-from-life-support/
