Hey, folks, I was lucky enough to get an advance review copy of my good friend Marianne Dissards latest CD The Cat. Not Me, though since returning from my travels last month Ive been weeks behind with everything (including a timely review of this magnificent album). Ive known Marianne since my days of living in Tucson, and since then weve both moved on to other places (shes returned to her native France, and Ive exiled myself to the hinterlands of the L.A. area), though weve stayed in touch throughout the years. It doesnt hurt that Im a massive fan of her distinct form of chanteuse-evoking music, and her latest CD does not disappoint. It harkens back to a classic period in late 60s/early 70s French pop music when the likes of Serge Gainsbourg and Francoise Hardy were creating beautiful, sometimes oblique music that was as much personal as it was popular. Im not being hyperbolic when I say that this album is both epic and subtle. In other words, it is one of her best, and thats saying something. The Cat. Not Me was released on Aug. 22, and can be purchased here: mariannedissard.bandcamp/album/the-cat-not-me-2014 TRACKLISTING 1 / Am Letzen 2 / Mouton Bercail 3 / Pomme 4 / Je Ne Le Savais Pas 5 / Oiseau 6 / Tortue 7 / Election 8 / Salamandre 9 / Doll Circa 10 / La Partie De Puzzle Du Jardin A La Française + bonus / Heureusement Sans Heurt Marianne Dissard, Sergio Mendoza, Thøger Lund, Marco Rosano with guests Mickey Raphael, Naïm Amor, Salvador Lopez, Gabriel Sullivan, Jon Villa, Matt Rendon, Chris Lopez, Jessica Campbell, Alida Pellegrini, Gabrielle Pietrangelo.
