Hey gang. I was up in Sydney for Mardi Gras in 2002. Frankie was due to start his shift after Adeva had finished singing I thank you. Two lesbians came up to me to ask whether they could sit next to me because they wanted to hear Frankie spin as did I . He made one mistake by not checking that all the cartridges in the three turntables were secure and when he kicked of his set, the right channel was dead until he did a mix and the problem became obvious when the right channel kicked in. He looked rattled and was abusing the engineers for not checking the gear properly. Most guys who work in high power audio here in Australia have no experience in setting up turntables except for the basics. I learned a long time ago to always have two cartridges and slip mats in my kit along with a spare stylus and what height the gimble had to be for my Technics head shells and Shure cartridges stylii. I spent at least an hour before a gig making sure that everything was fine..........it had to be. It would not surprise me if Frankie died from a stress induced heart attack or stroke. He traveled all over the world, spent hours in studios and more than likely over did it. His set in 2002 was very ordinary and the dance floor reflected this. Doing major parties is very nerve racking. I always worked on the premise that at a party, you dont try to educate a crowd with new music. You have the rest of the year to introduce new music in your regular clubs. Frankie, in my opinion just burnt out. I got out after 20 years because I was feeling overwhelmed. A club DJ faces many stresses. Perhaps Frankie just didnt listen to what his body was telling him. Sadly, we will never know.đŸ˜ĸ
