Hey guys, Im Jackie! Im probably the odd one out with my background. Im a senior pre-med student......yeah. So Im going to propose something a little different. My passion project right now is this program I’ve helped to create for women on Skid Row. You can learn more about it on our fundraising page: https://youcaring/rootsfundraiser I’m also the graphic design coordinator for Trojan Dance Marathon, which is a student-run philanthropy that raises money for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. One issue I’ve run into with both projects is difficulty with fundraising. Besides friends and family, no one really donates to non-profit organizations. I’m thinking about creating content that is compelling enough to inspire people to support causes that they aren’t directly involved with. Even the sob story ASPCA/Sarah McLachlan shtick isnt enough to get someone to pick up the phone. My main source of inspiration is Humans of New York. That project has done a really amazing job of humanizing strangers to its millions of followers. It’s a simple concept and typically presents a person’s portrait with a quote from them. Quotes can be a single sentence or a whole story, and the content can range from bizarre to poignant. But occasionally, HONY will ask its followers for money to support x cause, and it can raise thousands of dollars in minutes. Somehow, he’s able to break down that fourth wall and create genuine empathy. I want to somehow recreate that and use it to benefit non-profit organizations. I know this is mainly an entrepreneurship class, and a project in the non-profit sector is probably a long shot, but if anyone is interested let me know! Otherwise, my interests are pretty diverse, and Im down for collaborating on pretty much anything :)
