Hey guys what a night! It went as predicted, short and sharp! The front brought heavy rain, icy showers, some hail and snow to very low levels. Conditions have improved and will clear to a nice sunny day with winds slowly easing off but the temperatures will remain cool. There is a chance we may get some more showers later on as they push into coastal areas. Temperatures will be around 10-12 degrees, back to winter! Keep in mind guys most roads above 300m in Canterbury will have snow and maybe some ice so drive carefully. According to the land transport agency if you’re going over Porters Pass you need chains and it’s closed to towing vehicles. Please send in your snow photos and make sure you state your location! Also, thanks for all the reports sent in, this is vital to the pages value and success so a big thanks to all of you. Summary: - Snow has fallen to around 250 to 400m in North Canterbury - Castle hill, Hanmer Springs has a light dusting in higher parts of the village. Snow down to the foothills in Kaikoura. Tekapo, let us know on if you have snow. -Currently Porters Pass requires chains and is closed to towing vehicles, check NZ Land transport agency for latest information. - Ski fields have received a decent dump of snow overnight - back to winter like conditions. Some totals, from snow.co.nz Porters 15cm, Craigieburn 27cm, Ohau 30cm, Hutt 25cm and Mt Lyford in North Canterbury 20cm. Check Snow.co.nz for latest conditions. * Conditions have now eased off from the south, with just a number of chain showers coming through and hitting Banks Peninsula and coastal areas. Today conditions will remain cool but we should escape the showers until later this evening. A few more showers may push into Canterbury especially in coastal and northern parts of Canterbury.
