Hey my lovelies...I just wanted to share a thought. I understand that with what happened to our good friend Max Vos there is a tendency to decry the use of pen names. Please dont lend your voice to that argument. Remember just recently Facebook was deleting accounts of people with pen names, and the community at large called them out on it because the policy unfairly targeted and punished many in the LGBTQ community. What happened to Max and harkening back a couple of years ago to another man who used a false name to target people in our community doesnt mean we should ban or out all those with pen names. These two are predators—nothing more. Dont let them be the reason to dictate how others should live. Why use a pen name? Hundreds of reasons—most of them entirely personal—some of them are professional. Its not just authors, either. Some readers prefer to use an online name to discuss their MM reading habits—create separate FB accounts to keep their fun chatter outside of the personal life family and friends view. What if an author writes erotica and childrens books? Would you really want to require that she could only use one name? How about the author in the military/law enforcement/education who, if he was outed as an erotica author might experience workplace harassment—or even be fired? How about writer who prefers to maintain a level of privacy surrounding her own personal life? There are a TON of reasons why people desire to use a pen name—a blanket policy banning the use of pen names is a bad idea.
