Hey yall, A week ago I mentioned that there some shenanigans going on at my sons school. Well, that was an understatement. How do you harass, bully, break National Junior College rules, but stupidly single out the one kid that has a dad in athletic compliance? My son was bullied daily by his coach, but sadly it was not only my son. The difference was my son listened and did as I instructed. He kept meticulous notes and damning videos of all of the illegal acts that this coach did. Of course, the President and coach told...umm...less than the truth. The president said, and I qoute, that I was a man with no integrity! I resembles that! lol His intimidation didnt quite work as it had on some others. When you have cold hard facts, there is not too much help that you can get from a lie. Well, other than digger a deeper hole for yourself. My son and 12-15 teammates were cut from the team. Illegally I might add. Once you receive a scholarship, youre in for the duration. The idea was to force the boys to leave. That is also illegal and harassment. Luckily, my son knew the rules and trusted my judgment. As a result, things are being handled. I have not seen my son this relaxed since his second day on campus. The coach would routinely berate the kids that he wanted to get rid of. See, heres the deal. If the kids leave, there scholarship is forfeited. If they stay, they are on record as one of the 15 allowed kids. So, if you have 40 plus kids, 25 gotta go and you are only allowed 2 official try-outs per year at the junior college level. There is NO WAY POSSIBLE that you can have 40 plus kids on campus for 6-8 weeks and only have two try-outs. Open gym was closed to the student body...illegal and having a basketball class/PE class that was closed to the student body...illegal and training kids before October 1st...yep, also illegal. I only asked one thing of the coach; Leave my kid alone. He couldnt honor that simple wish and as a result, the Kraken has been released! As a parent, I refuse to ever allow a dirty coach to humiliate not only my kid, but the other kids that I am speaking for. I speak for the staff that can not speak and I speak for the parents that did not know the rules. Unfortunately, those kids that left school may not have any recourse, but the ones that remained are sleeping well at night. They sleep well because they know that someone is watching their back. I wonder what the coach would do if a coach did and said those things to HIS son...food for thought... Parents of athletes, know the rules of engagement. Dont just run to the school complaining about your kid not playing. Even the playing field by knowing the rules and making certain that the school is doing the right thing regarding your child. See, Im from the 5th ward in Flint. A lot of people helped me stay the course and do the right thing. I dont have to physically fight a person. I do the most damage with a simple pen and piece of paper. This was a teachable moment for my son. A professor told me that my son was telling him what the rules were and he said it with conviction. After he checked, my son was 100% correct! I was a proud papa right there. It has never been about the sport. It has always been about respecting what the sport can do for the child, the school and the program. This coach, didnt understand that simple concept. Stay tuned.
