Hi All, KCCN is a supporter of the Edmund Rice Centre in Sydney, in particular the Pacific Calling Partnership. The Pacific Calling Partnership (PCP) consists of organisations and individuals whose objectives are to: - Listen to calls from our low-lying island neighbours in the Torres Strait and the Pacific about the serious threat that climate change poses to them - Ensure that Pacific Island voices on climate change are heard on the world stage - Raise awareness of our responsibility to these communities as part of a global solution towards a sustainable future. One of the current campaigns is to promote the candidacy of Kiribati’s President, Anote Tong, for the Nobel Peace Prize. A committee of prominent individuals drawn from the international community - with diverse commitments to social justice, north-south equity and human rights - has been formed to promote the candidacy of Kiribati’s President Anote Tong. In advancing this nomination the Committee seeks both to honour President Tong for his on-going work to draw world attention to the situation of the peoples and cultures most at risk from the effects of climate change, and also to directly contribute to that vital and urgent work. Individuals and groups are invited to take action now to support the nomination. To read more about it go to the website tongnpp.info/ . To take action scroll down the home page and then click on Take Action Now - One Thousand Thoughts – Towards a Better Planet. To read other peoples thoughts for the planet go to the top of the page and click on 1000 Thoughts Here is an example of a thought: Id like to support the nomination of HE Anote Tong, President of Kiribati, for the Nobel Peace Prize. He has been an outstanding advocate for the rights of people living on climate change affected islands and has worked hard to educate the affluent world to take responsibility for its CO2 producing life style. As an Australian, I regard this as especially important. Our new government is sceptical about the impact of climate change and is taking the country backwards in its funding priorities and environmental policies. We continually need to be reminded of the dramatic impact of climate change on our neighbours - and of course on us too. Fiona Johnston, 64, grandmother, Adelaide, SA, Australia I would be grateful if you could distribute this through your networks, on Facebook, Twitter etc. Contributing to the Tong Facebook campaign: Log onto facebook or sign up; Go to the page called Anote Tong Nobel Peace Prize Campaign; Click Like; Write a comment; Share the page with all your families, friends and your networks; invite them to support the campaign Every person’s contribution will make a difference!! With Thanks
