Hi All We have had one week in Broome, leave tomorrow towards Port Hedland. I think our first stop will be at Barn Hill station, it has a dirt road going into it so we will have to check it out as our van is not built for too many rough roads. We have visited most of the tourist attractions here. We went out to a pearling place, that was interesting, we also did a tour at their shop in town. There was a guy who gave a talk on the industry which was very interesting, it was a very dangerous place to work. The Japanese were the most successful and the best divers. I don’t know how they coped, the diving suits and the garments they wore underneath were made in England and would have fit me. The fatality rate was extremely high as no one knew about the bends back at the turn of the century and later. We visited the Japanese cemetery today and there are hundreds of graves, sadly we were told that no one from Japan visits there nowadays and it is the local people that keep it in its pristine state. We flew out to the Horizontal Falls on Thursday, left at 6am and got back at 4.30pm. They were spectacular, we flew out in a seaplane and on the way saw a beautiful sunrise. I couldn’t get real great photos as I was sitting in the middle of the plane. Once we landed we went straight to see the falls as the tide was turning, and what a magnificent sight they were. The large ones we could go through as they were reasonably low, the smaller ones we couldn’t go through at that time because the fall was too great for the boat to get through, we went through later after we had had breakfast. We also went on a boat trip around the bays there, in one was a barge where one of the staff lives the others live on the pontoon. The rocks and other sights were terrific with great rock formations. I could talk about this area for hours, if there was only one place to see in Australia this would be it.We then flew to our next destination, this time I got to sit in the co-pilots seat and got the best view ever. Once we landed we climbed aboard the bus that was to bring us home, we visited an aqua farm then went onto Cape Leveque for lunch, and then we had a walk along a beach. There were waves there the first we had seen for ages, none of the oceans up here seem to have many waves, not for surfies. The rest of the trip was uneventful, more bush and fires to see, I slept quite a bit of the way back. One thing I wanted to do was a sunset camel ride on the beach but the brochure stated that there was a 100kg limit, I had to settle for just going down and having a look. Another thing we didn’t get to see were the Dinosaur footprints in the rocks, they can only be seen on a very low tide which happened early this morning and we slept in, I did manage to get photos of a couple in the Museum. They had them because someone had cut them out of the rocks and when they were caught the footprints were confiscated and put in the museum. There were some pretend ones in concrete that I did get to photo. Cheers for now Graham and Jenny
