Hi Everyone, With the extreme cold approaching we are asking for your help in keeping our ponies as comfortable and healthy as can be! Starting Wednesday PM, we are going to bundle up the barn using some hay bales in the door drafts, plastic over some windows, and keeping all the doors shut as much as possible. Please help up by: • Closing any door that you open behind you • Do not move or use any of the hay bales out in the open as they are being used to block drafts • If you notice ice in your horse’s bucket while grooming etc, feel free to break it up – we will be monitoring water intake as well. • Ensuring your horse has enough winter blankets on the front of his or her stall should we need to add layers to him or her Our water will be turned off at the main – since we will be fully staffed please let us know if you need us to turn it on for any reason – we will be doing this to keep the pipes from freezing. We will probably hold off on turning out unless the WINDCHILL temp rises above 10 degrees. Stabled Horses loose the ability to keep themselves warm when the wind chills drop this low no matter how many blankets we use. We also discourage riding in this type of cold. Though we are out of the wind in the ring, most vets advise against riding horses heavily in a temporary cold snap. Thanks for helping us keep our favorite fuzzies warm and happy. Stay warm!!!
