Hi Friends - Greetings from the Ukraine. We are in a small city about 5 hours from Kiev and what a journey weve had. Life changing is the only way to describe what weve experienced. I have made a promise to myself to never complain about another thing (Ill never keep this but I sure am going to try). The life in this country is so incredibly difficult for these people - honestly, I thought I knew what it would be like, but I wasnt quite prepared for what weve seen. Apartment buildings are in such disrepair, roads are still bombed out from WW2, the hospital here - well lets just say it cannot possibly be a sterile environment. Life is so hard for people that smiles are hard to come by. Despite the conditions, people are warm and friendly when you get to know them. Weve gotten to know one man who serves as our driver and he is just so sweet. He shared the story of his family and he has lost many due to cancer which is very big here perhaps due to Chernobyl (sp?). If you get sick, basically you have very little help as medicine is too costly. Anyway, on to the good news. We are bringing little Bogdan home as God showed up just as we had first said no and were about to return home. We had officially filed our petition to say we wouldnt adopt him and you should have seen the doctors and lawyers come out of the wood work to advocate for this child. So many people dropped everything to have an emergency meeting on a Friday night at 7pm at the orphanage as they just knew we were making a decision based on limited information. We are so thankful to all these people. They were right. Bogdan has incredible potential and were so excited to bring him home. He is smart, adorable, lovable and responds so well to us. I swear he knows that somehow he is special in all this and he wasnt going to let us go home. Last night when we left the orphange, he cried so hard as he thought we werent coming back. More to come....Missing all my babies back home and cant wait to share pictures of this amazing adventure.
