Hi, I am Angus, ANGUS, I am a mentally ill person, Schizophrenic - TopicsExpress

Hi, I am Angus, ANGUS, I am a mentally ill person, Schizophrenic with Bipolar, used to be called Schizoaffective, which means Schizoprenic with something else. And before that I was considered to be with Aspergers. I am just wondering how people in general should treat mentally ill people/persons. Some do mock and make fun of people who act out on impulses, delusions/hallucinations, looking like they are in a movie or something. Even though when they still know, they sometimes continue to mock. I do not think this is right. Many people says that all mentally ill individuals are considered dangerous, but this is not the case in my opinion. I think that people who are considered “normal” should be accountable of their own behavior, and be more respectful, of course. Why? Because “normals” are more capable of controlling their own behavior/themselves. Anyway, so When you are surrounded by many mentally ill persons, due to being a staff in a mentally ill agency, or a family member happens to have mental illness, and has many mentally ill friends. And you see them on a personal level, on a consistent basis. Nuances and antics start to emerge, and you start to know them better. Then you start to notice that many stay in their comfort zone, taking advantage of the “stigma” of their own mental illness. Sometimes one start to say “come on! You know, you know, and you can get past this.” This is a sensitive issue, I know, very sticky stuff. But of course they deserve respect, but should we just let them be, and do whatever they want. I do not think so, what do you think?
