Hi Jackson and Friends, Meet my new BFF Ziggy! A week ago I got a call from my vet asking if I could foster a tiny kitty found on the side of the road. The kitty was paralyzed from the waist down, and needed her bladder expressed every 2-3 hours. I said yes, but I was terrified! Id never expressed a bladder before, and when I met Ziggy and saw how tiny and frail she was, I almost lost my resolve. She was filthy, couldnt stop shaking, and had a bad eye infection. When I expressed her bladder the first time, she peed blood because of a horrible UTI. But when the vet left the room to get medications, the little, broken-looking kitten (she could only lay on her side) started to purr for me. That settled it. Within 45 minutes we were home, bathed, and named! By the weekend, Ziggy could not only sit up, but she could travel short distances using only her front paws. Fast-forward to today, a week since we first met: Ziggy can now take off across the room so quickly (as with most toddlers--especially when its bed-time) that I can barely catch her. She goes to work with me at my elementary school, and is very helpful at classroom management. At home, Ziggy has become an integral part of my eclectic group of fosters. Theyre all special needs (visually impaired, chronically ill, physically handicapped, etc.), but Ziggy has made a special connection with Stevie Nixie, a kitten who lost both hind legs in an accident. Ziggy starts acupuncture this weekend to see if she can regain use of her bladder (while she loves me, she says shes very sick of me squeegee-ing her bladder). Whether or not this works, Ziggy will be looking for a fur-ever home! Id prefer Ziggy to go to a home rather than a sanctuary. Obviously, as she ages shell need her bladder expressed less frequently (were at every four hours now). However, the rear left leg will probably have to be amputated--it just drags behind her and has become atrophied and brittle. Jackson, can you please feature Ziggys story? Ideally Id love to see her adopted along with her friend, Stevie Nixie. Theyre both dependent on their front legs for mobility, so theyre together all the time. Id like to see them in either a house equipped to keep them stimulated (their living-space is very limited since they arent able to climb to areas the others can go to), or a house with an enclosed, safe yard that they can enjoy with supervision. Right now, Ziggy is the priority. She obviously needs a home where her owners would be comfortable expressing her bladder, and where shed get lots of love and attention! Can you please help? Ziggy is the toughest little kitty Ive ever met (and the most loving)! She deserves a chance!
