Hi all, I have had a lot of great questions asked of late about my pricing and about price matching and the difference between the meat we sell at Stack Family Farm and the butchers. I have been responding individually but thought that it would be good to clarify on our site as well… :) 1) our animals 99% of the time born here, so we know from start to finish: the quality of life, where it has been, what it has eaten, and that it has not been medicated, and is healthy 2) the other 1% is often males that are brought in to improve our lines of our animals (we are always trying to improve and make the breed healthier and stronger). I personally visit the farms, I make sure the other farmer and myself are on the same wave length of quality of care and organic practices, the animals are quarantined to make sure on our farm that stress from the move does not bring something out. 3)all our animals free range 4)our cattle and lambs are not grain fed. For example our cattle are strictly grass fed, it takes 2 years to get them to a good weight. On the other hand grain fed it takes around 1 year 5)grain fed animals are fed organic NON GMO feed Our farm is struggling to survive and to continue to offer, ethically raised, excellent quality meats and eggs. How we choose to raise our animals is time consuming and much more expensive than the meats you buy from stores/butchers. These animals are raised in farm factories or else are picked up at auctions as culls. That is the reality… How else are they able to price so low but still make a profit As the consumer you work hard to earn your money. You choose what is important to you by spending it where you see fit and i respect that. I ask that you please respect the time, energy and love we put into our animals, farm and products. We are not a store and we are not trying to be like a store or a butcher. But we try our best to accommodate everybody, and make sure they are happy on all fronts :) Our farm has an open gate policy you are more than welcome to come to the farm and check out what we do. I have not become organically certified as I would have to pass the fees on to the consumer and the paperwork spend on it..I feel is better served actually doing farm stuff not paperwork. When comparing meats, you are entitled to ask questions about your food. If this is important to you, ask where they source their meat from (I hope they are honest). And then you can compared apples to apples and oranges to oranges and make a truly informed decision. Questions are always welcome.
