Hi all, Just a bit upset because the usual group of guys that go to the BLD’s “cruise in” on Wednesday nights have decided to go to the Palace Diner in Hauppauge instead. BLD’s is my favorite place to bring the car so I will still go there but I don’t know how many others will be there. I am definitely not going to the Palace Diner, as I was told the parking lot is in the back (where no one will see us) and it is on a main route (347) so I don’t think people will stop to see the cars, even if they know we are there. My main objective for going to the “cruise-ins” is to talk to people about my car(s). BLD’s sponsors the cruise night and there are other people there that aren’t part of the group I previously mentioned. So I hope more people will attend. If it doesn’t work out, I will probably go to the one in Selden in the Home Depot parking lot. That has been going on for quite some time and is well-established (also on Wednesday night) so it might work out. It is also on a main route (25) but the traffic is much slower and I think all the stores in the shopping center will draw more onlookers. I lived in Selden for nearly 41 years so it is very familiar to me. The reason those guys gave for going somewhere else is that BLD’s raised their prices on the menu by a couple of dollars. It doesn’t bother me because I feel it is worth the entertainment. Of course, I need very little to eat to be full (following a low-carb diet), so that may be part of it. I guess if I “pigged out” with food, it would be more costly. Even if the prices bothered me, I could always go to the pizza place and get a hero with the filling separate from the bread. What I do in that case is take ½ of the bread and scoop out the soft part—just leave a thin crust and then fill it with my meatballs or whatever. And there is always the choice of bringing your own food. I really find it incredible that they are doing this and they didn’t even ask us, as I always thought we were part of the group, as we have purchased their plaques and our t-shirts are on order. They have another cruise-in going on at Nesconset Plaza on Monday nights, but we haven’t attended that very regularly. All they do is park their cars by the front curb and then take out their folding chairs and sit in a circle under the trees. That’s fine if that’s what you want to do but, as mentioned previously, I like to talk to people about my car(s). I tried sitting with my chair in front of the car but hardly any onlookers showed up. I find this very disappointing as they are a nice group of guys and have interesting cars, but nothing can replace the fun to be had at BLD’s. Wish me luck! Ellie
