Hi all! Just arrived in Maputo after driving to here from from Pemba. I was only stopped 3 times during the trip, and that was only by the people from the fauna protection for some chat at the bridges over the 3 main rivers (Lurio, Zambeze and Save). Never had any inspection of car, luggage or passengers. During the 3 full days of driving, I was never stopped by the traffic police; never showed my ID, driver’s license or car documents to anyone. Starting from Pemba at 6am, reached Mocuba before sunset. Road no problem, petrol stations no problem, traffic cops no problem. Starting at 6 am next day from Mocuba, reached Inhassoro before sunset. Road has some (for a 4x4) non-dangerous potholes at some stretches, but no problem. Petrol stations no problem, traffic cops no problem. Starting at 6am next morning, reached Maputo before sunset. Road has some (for a 4x4) non-dangerous potholes at some stretches, but no problem. Petrol stations no problem, traffic cops no problem, but plentiful. I actually did not sleep in Inhassoro because Casa Luna (that I was recommended) is a tourist lodge with prices that are not meant for travelers; a tent is 3.300 MZN, and a hut with straw roof is 4.100 MZN per person/night, and all other places were just like that: nothing for a traveler, so i went on to Massinga. Slept first night in Mocuba at Venus Guest House (behind the first of the two petrol stations on your left hand when arriving in Mocuba from the south) Tel: +258 24 810 648 / +258 82 560 5476 / +258 84 389 7792 (one person sleeps in double room for 2.100 MZN in Dec. 2014) Best in Mocuba. A/C, hot water, safe parking. Restaurant in town, 2 kms. Slept second night in Massinga: Hotel Dalilos (on the left side of EN1 about 100 meters after the Petromoc petrol station that is on your right hand side when entering Massinga from the south) Tel: +258 86 481 5877 (one person sleeps in double room for 1.700 MZN in Dec. 2014). Best in Massinga. A/C, hot water, safe parking. Restaurant nearby, 100 meters. As I entered Maputo via the new road from Marracuene to Bairro dos Pescadores, I stopped quickly at the stables and handed over the two mooring ropes to Tsamadhi that Mark gave me in Pemba. The first picture shows my motion alarm that I always use when I sleep away from home; if someone gets into my room while I am asleep it wakes me up instantly with a very loud alarm signal. The other pictures are from the bridges over the Zambeze river, Save river and Lurio river.
