Hi all...before you go out to vote today, I wanted to share the League of Humane Voters of NJs stance for ballot #2: Clearly, the League of Humane Voters of New Jersey strongly supports the preservation of wild lands. Unfortunately, hunting interests have co-opted public funding mechanisms to the extent that over one half of public shooting grounds (Wildlife Management Areas) are purchased by Green Acres public funds. Furthermore, under the rubric of stewardship, the state hunting agency and cooperating conservation groups make hunting mandatory (stewardship plans ) on lands purchased by public funds. New Jersey has one of the highest hunting rates on our public lands. The League supports preserving land, wherever we can. We do not support the gun lobbys expropriation of taxpayer moneys for shooting casinos and required access for hunting and trapping. As a matter of principle, vote No. --- Im personally very conflicted because NJ is in desperate need of greenland - especially because with so much development, our wildlife has even less and less places to go, but I absolutely dont want to indirectly support or endorse hunting. However without new land, animals will be even more cornered and thus hunters will feel just as validated to continue hunting. Out of principle, I would vote no, but I dont know for practicality reasons. What do you think?
