Hi all, just a quick question has anybody got any fundraising ideas as we are trying to fundraise for a wheelchair for our daughter. She desperately needs a manual wheelchair and has been waiting for funding since we got the quote in September 2013, now she has outgrown the chair so much, it had bern deemed unsafe by her occupational therapist. If anybody has any ideas on fundraising please let me know. Here is a bit of info about Alyssa Our daughter is 10 and she has Spinal Muscular Atrophy which is a Motor Neuron disease very similar to ALS, except that SMA also effects children (Around 1 in 6000) and is caused by a missing gene, SMN1, which is necessary to provide protein( SMN) to motor neurons in the spine. Without this protein, motor neurons in the spine slowly die, leading to muscle wastage. Over time children slowly lose the ability to move, swallow ,smile and eventually breath. There is currently no cure or treatments to stop or slow the progression. It is inherited from both parents who are carriers of a mutated SMN1 gene. Around 1 in 35 people carry this mutated gene. If Two people meet who carry this mutated gene,stastically they have a 25% chance of having a child with SMA.
