Hi all, my friend just sent me this but I cant do it as Im either on holiday or on tour... If youre interested contact Corinne :) .....( I dont actually know her it was sent to me buy someone whos worked with her before) Dear excellent SM and production people, I’m just emailing with my Forward Theatre hat on; to see if anyone might potentially be available for stage management work on a new show we’re producing called THE BIRD PROJECT. It’s a family-friendly, puppetry/storytelling piece which Forward Theatre Project are developing to tour to outdoor festivals this summer. The current schedule is as follows: Mon 7th- Fri 11th Jul – rehearsals week 1 (London) Mon 14th-Thurs 17th Jul – rehearsals week 2 (London) Fri 18th Jul – travel to Latitude; dress rehearsal; 1 performance late afternoon Sat 19th Jul – Latitude – 1 performance (daytime) Sun 20th Jul – Latitude – 2 performances (daytime) then travel home Fri 22nd Aug – travel to Galtres Festival in North Yorkshire (morning); 1 performance late afternoon Sat 23rd Aug – Galtres – 1 performance late afternoon Sun 24th Aug – travel to Summer Squall festival in Ramsgate early morning – 1 or 2 performances afternoon – tbc Mon 25th Aug – Ramsgate – 1 or 2 performances (daytime) then travel home – tbc Sat 6th Sept – travel to Yorkshire; 1 or 2 performances at On Our Turf Festival near York (daytime) – tbc Sun 7th Sept – On Our Turf – 1 or 2 performances (daytime) then travel home – tbc Sat 13th Sept – travel to Yorkshire; 1 or 2 performances at On Our Turf (daytime) Sun 14th Sept – On Our Turf – 1 or 2 performances (daytime) then travel home Sat 20th Sept – travel to Bury – 1 or 2 performances at Ramsbottom Fest (daytime) – tbc Sun 21st Sept – Ramsbottom – 1 or 2 performances (daytime) then travel home For all of the tbc dates, we are awaiting confirmation and should have it within the next 2 weeks. With each festival, we will need the stage manager to drive a hired van (with cast and set) from London to the festival site on the morning of the first performance day, and drive it back on the evening after the last performance of the fest. The fee will be £80 per day. There’ll be very little prep needed, as we will be sourcing all the props etc during development and rehearsals i.e. before stage manager comes on board. We may ask them to do a small amount of liaising with the cast, and possibly booking transport, though I will do as much of this as possible. So the SM’s main duties really will be transporting the set to each site, setting up, and running any tech needed during the shows. A little more about the show: it’s a collaboration between Forward Theatre collective members Nikki Williams and Ben Ellis (writers) and Lydia Denno (designer), and puppeteer Annie Brooks and director Amelia Bird. They are creating a new piece which explores themes of flight, freedom and the relationship between humankind and nature. Specifically, it will tell the story of a lonely young boy whose view of the world is changed by a relationship he strikes up with a fledgeling bird. The piece will feature live storytelling, movement, puppetry and music. We plan to perform it in natural outdoor spaces within festival sites – i.e. with a real tree as the backdrop to the playing space, which we will hang things off and generally interact with. The staging will be quite simple – 3 performers who will operate the puppets and play the characters in the piece. 1 of the performers will also play live music throughout on a variety of instruments, but won’t need amplification. If we do need a power source at all, it’s likely to just be for overnight charging of the battery-powered lamps that we want to use in the show. At any rate, it will all be easily transportable, with minimal set and props (plus of course the puppets), and easy to set up on each site. Rehearsals take place 7th-17th July, leading straight into Latitude. We will only need a Stage Manager for the performance dates themselves, not for rehearsals. At present there’s no script to show you, as it’s still being worked on, but it will certainly exist by 7th July! Be great to know if you might be potentially available for some or all of the dates; or if not, could you pass this on to any other SM contacts who might be interested?
